Why Certifications Matter More Than Popularity
The most advertised protein brand in India is not necessarily the most tested. Popularity on Amazon, number of celebrity endorsements, and gym shelf presence have zero correlation with whether a product has been independently verified by a lab. That disconnect is the entire reason Labdoor and Trustified exist.
We cross-referenced every brand in our April 2026 database (42 brands, 376 SKUs) against the public databases of both Labdoor and Trustified. Here's what we found.
How Labdoor and Trustified Score Products
It's worth understanding what each platform actually tests before reading the results.
Labdoor (US-based, operating since 2012) purchases products off retail shelves and sends them to FDA-registered laboratories. They test for protein content accuracy, heavy metals (lead, arsenic, cadmium, mercury), microbial contamination (E. coli, Salmonella, yeast/mould), and ingredient safety. Results are graded A+ through F and published publicly. The full methodology is available at labdoor.com.
Trustified (India-based) uses what they call 7-Level and 8-Level blind testing. Every product is purchased independently — no free samples — and the sealed product is sent for lab testing with no brand notification. Their testing covers label accuracy, amino acid profile (to detect spiking), heavy metals, and microbial safety. Full methodology at trustified.in/7leveltesting. Pass/fail results and raw data are published for every test, including failures.
Trustified's key differentiator: they publish failures. Most certification bodies only show you what passed. Trustified shows the full picture — which is why their database is the most honest signal available for Indian buyers.
The A+ Tier: Labdoor's Top-Rated Proteins
Based on Labdoor's current protein rankings, the following brands have earned A+ grades — the highest possible — meaning they passed on label accuracy, purity, and safety:
| Brand / Product | Type | Labdoor Grade | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| AS-IT-IS Nutrition Whey Protein Concentrate | Concentrate | A+ | Indian brand, budget-friendly |
| AS-IT-IS Atom PWR Whey Protein | Concentrate | A+ | Multiple SKUs tested |
| MuscleBlaze Biozyme Performance Whey | Blend | A+ | India's largest brand, certified |
| MuscleBlaze Biozorb Performance Whey | Blend | A+ | Multiple formulations tested |
| MuscleBlaze Biozyme Iso-Zero | Isolate | A+ | Isolate variant, higher price point |
| MuscleBlaze Biozorb Iso Zero | Isolate | A+ | Zero-carb isolate |
| Puro IsoPro WPI Whey Isolate | Isolate | A+ | Indian isolate, competitive pricing |
| MyProtein Impact Whey Isolate (India) | Isolate | A+ | International brand, India-specific SKU |
| Bal Bharat Concentrate Whey Protein | Concentrate | A+ | Lesser-known brand, strong test result |
| Transparent Labs Whey Protein Isolate | Isolate | A+ | US brand, premium priced |
| Legion Whey+ Protein Powder | Isolate | A+ | US brand, grass-fed |
The most striking pattern: Indian mid-range brands dominate the top tier. AS-IT-IS and MuscleBlaze sit alongside global premium brands at the same A+ grade, at a fraction of the price.

The Surprise: What Popular Names Are Missing
Several brands that dominate gym conversation and Amazon search results in India do not appear in either Labdoor's or Trustified's certified database. This doesn't mean their products are bad — it means they haven't submitted to or passed third-party blind testing. The absence of certification is not proof of failure; it's proof of an unanswered question.
Of the 42 brands in our database, only 16 have any Trustified or Labdoor certification. That's more than half with no independent verification.
What About Labdoor's "X" Grades?
Labdoor's public database also shows products that received an "X" grade — indicating a concern requiring further investigation or failure on one or more tested parameters. This is not a hypothetical risk. Labdoor's protein ranking page shows "X" results alongside A+ grades. Always check the full scorecard, not just the top-line grade.
How to Use This Data
- Search the brand on labdoor.com/rankings/protein — if they have a report, read the full scorecard, not just the grade.
- Check the brand against trustified.in/certifiedbrands for India-specific certification status.
- Use our comparison table — filter by "Certified" to see only products that have passed third-party testing, then sort by ₹/g protein.
Bottom Line
Across our 42-brand database, the pattern is consistent: the brands with the strongest independent test results are not the most expensive ones. Nakpro leads certified value at ₹0.99/g (soy), with Nutrabay, AS-IT-IS, and MuscleBlaze dominating certified whey under ₹3.00/g. Check the databases, not the packaging.
